If you think that food is more important, think twice.
I worked in the food industry for several years. During that time, I learned how complex the food production and distribution process can be. I had the good luck to work as the marketing head advisor from the start of a cheese producer and reseller company. I had to take the first pictures of a cow to design their logo and label. The fact is that I had the opportunity to learn all the processes as the company grew from a single-city market to a national cheese brand.
Interestingly, cheese production must be accurate regarding timing and volume in milk-buying orders, which are the basis for cheese production. The expiration time of milk and cheese is critical and is affected by the type of cheese produced, legal regulations, and distribution center requirements. Timing is vital in production, distribution, and sales. This process is more critical than any other product in the retail market. Every single step must match the timing to fulfill market requirements. It hasn’t been a rocket science project, but it’s a critical operation.
So, what are we talking about here, production or food? No, we are talking about the Energy needed to feed our modern civilization. Energy to feed and protect the cows, process the milk, and transport it to the cheese factory: Energy to produce the cheese and more to transport it to the consumption centers. Even the guy working at the desk during this process needed Energy. That guy’s Energy depends on his food, which requires Energy to be produced, distributed, and even cooked.
So, let’s go and take care of all Energy resources we have. You do not think so?
